Waterloo Wolves defenceman brings size & agility

The Spitfires chose defenceman Logan Stanely with the 12th overall pick in the State Farm 2014 OHL Priority Selection presented by #Bobcats Sports Bar & Grill on Saturday. 

A 6’6, 209-pound blueliner, Stanley is described as a very mobile skater with offensive upside. In 28 games last season, with the Waterloo Wolves of the AHMMPL, Stanley averaged a point a game with eight goals and 20 assists in 28 games played, along with 95 penalty minutes. In 9 playoff games, Stanley added five assists while chalking up 35 penalty minutes. 

VERTIY SELECTED @ #26

With the #26 pick overall, the Spitfires selected talented left winger Daniil Vertiy from the North York Rangers of the GTMMHL. The 6’0 198-pounder, scored 15 goals and added 13 assists for 28 points along with 29 PIM in 29 games. He added a goal in five playoff games. At the OHL Cup last month, Vertiy scored three goals in four games. 

KELLER GOES #40

Slick playmaker Clayton Keller was chosen at #40, with the final pick of the 2nd Round. The 5’8, 150-pound centre, from Swansea, Illinois, who is described as one of the best playmakers in the draft, had a huge 2013-14 season at Shattuck St Mary’s Prep School, putting up 28 goals and 32 assists in 39 games. Keller has a (verbal) commitment to Boston University for the 2016-17 season. 

GAUVIN GOES #72

Defenceman Nick Gauvin was taken in the 4th Round, #72 overall. The Courtice, Ontario native, listed at 6’3 & 176, played for the Yale 15s in 2013-14, recording two goals and six assists with 36 penalty minutes in 24 games played. 

COFFEY SELECTED #92

With their 5th Round pick, the Spitfires took defenceman Blake Coffey, 5’9 & 170, from the Toronto Marlboros Midgets. The son of former NHL great Paul Coffey, Blake posted eight goals and 18 assists in 30 games played last season, adding two goals and four assists in 15 playoff games and two goals and an assist in six games in the OHL Cup.
