Spitfires Rout Soo 9-4

The Spitfires came into the Soo with a vengeance. After suffering the teams first three loses in a row this season, they came out on fire and won big 9-4.

In the first period, the Spitfires would let in the first goal for a 6th straight game and be down 1-0 just 2:50 into this one. However, it only took 14 seconds for the Spitfires to respond. Brett Harrison scored his 23rd on the season from Renwick. The Soo would score a 2nd goal with 8:14 left in the period off an offensive zone faceoff. Just 36 seconds later the Spitfires tied it up. Greentree found a loose puck in front of the net and scored his 19th on the season. In the final minute of the period, the Spitfires would score two goals from Maggio and Maillet to take a 4-2 lead. The Spitfires led in shots 13-3 after the frame.

In the second period, the Spitfires offence continued at its high pace as they scored 3 goals in the first five minutes of the frame. Harrison picked up his 2nd of the afternoon followed by Christopoulos’s 29th and then Greentree’s 2nd of the game. The Spitfires led 7-2 with 15 minutes to play in the period. The Soo would stop the bleeding a bit by scoring on the powerplay 3 quarters through the period. However, another Soo turnover turned into another Spitfire goal for Christopoulos making it 8-3.

In the third period, the Soo would score to make it an 8-4 game with 15 minutes to play. Holmes would score a howitzer with 23 seconds left for his first goal as a Spitfire and give the Spitfires a 9-4 lead and that would do it.

Spitfires end their 3-game losing streak and are back atop of the Western Conference.

The Spitfires are back in action on Thursday February 2nd vs the Soo Greyhounds in Windsor. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:05pm.
