Spitfires fall to London in a Shootout 4-3


It took eight shootout shooters to end this one as the Spitfires fell to London in the first of eight matchups.

The Knights took an early lead scoring 2 goals within the first 10 minutes of the game. The Knights lead 2-0 after 20 minutes of play.

In the second period, the Spitfires struck back. Wyatt Johnston scored his 2nd on the season while Birkett and O’Flaherty tallied their first OHL assist. After 40 minutes the Spits trailed 2-1 but lead shots 23-21.

Early in the third period the Spitfires tied the game when D’Amico sent a rocket pass cross ice to Maggio who one-timed it home. Just over two minutes later Ryan Abraham scored his first career OHL goal on a scramble in front. Putting the Spitfires up 3-2 with just under 14 minutes to play. However, the Knights scored just 8 minutes later and sent this game to overtime.

In the overtime frame, the Spitfires had zero shots and the Knights only had 2. But those two saves from Medina were clutch stopping Evangelista on the breakaway and rebound to keep the Spits in it. We were headed to a shootout.

It took 8 shooters before London scored and took home the win. Evangelista scored to put the Knights up 1-0. D’Amico the third shooter scored to keep the Spits alive. And Colton Smith scored to win it.

The Spitfires next home game is October 21st when the Owen Sound Attack come to town.
