Spitfires Defeat Guelph 4-1

WINDSOR, ON.
The Spitfires were victorious on home ice over the visiting Guelph Storm by a score of 4-1. They used their powerplay to gain momentum and never looked back after taking the lead.
In the first period, the Spitfires had a lot of chances to score but Gillespie stood tall. Windsor had 3 powerplay opportunities throughout the period but failed to convert on all of them. The lone goal scored in the period was a 2 on 1 with Maggio and Cristoforo, and Maggio decided to keep it and snipe his 52nd of the season. The Spitfires led 1-0 on the scoreboard after 20 minutes and had a 15-6 shot advantage.
In the second period, the Spitfires would finally cash in on the powerplay to go up 2-0. Just over a minute into the period, a Maggio shot went wide of the net but bounced right to the front and on the stick of Christopoulos who would score his 46th of the season. Over 18 minutes later and in the final minute of the period, the Spitfires sprung Castle on a breakaway and he was slashed and awarded a penalty shot. On the penalty shot, Castle would walk in and go backhand, forehand before shooting the puck off the post and in to give the Spitfires a 3-0 lead.
In the third period, the Storm would score a powerplay goal with under 10 minutes to play to make it a 3-1 game. The Spitfires would score a dagger with a 2 on 2 play with Morneau feeding Wright for his 14th goal of the season which would seal the deal and the Spitfires would take the win 4-1.
The Spitfires are back in action on Friday in London for the start of a home and home series to end the Spits regular season. Friday’s puck drop is scheduled for 7:00pm.
