(Sarnia, ON) – A trio of skaters had a pair of goals, as the Sting took a convincing 6-1 win over the Spitfires Friday night at the Progressive Auto Sales Arena.
Windsor native Anthony Salinitri, Jordan Kyrou and Sean Josling each scored twice, as the home side swept both halves of a home-and-home series between the West Division rivals, in front of a capacity crowd (4,615) that came to see the Sting retire the #91 jersey of franchise legend Steve Stamkos.
The win was the fourth straight for a streaking Sarnia (29-12-2-0) club that added Johnathan Ang (Peterborough), Michael Pezzetta (Sudbury) and Cam Dineen (North Bay) at the trade deadline.
Luke Boka (7) opened the scoring, giving Windsor (22-15-2-1) the lead at 6:52 of the first period. But it was all Sting from there, as the home side took a 2-1 lead after 20 minutes and a commanding 4-1 lead after two periods.
Lucas Patton (32 saves) took the loss in goal, as head coach Trevor Letowski opted to give Michael DiPietro the night off, leaving the club’s top goaltender in Windsor to rest.
Justin Fazio earned his second win in as many nights, stopping 24 of the 25 shots he faced.
The Spits are off Saturday before hosting the Saginaw Spirit at the WFCU Centre on Sunday (2:05).
