(Amherstburg, ON) – Spitfires goaltender Michael DiPietro was presented with the key to the Town of Amherstburg in a ceremony held Thursday.

Mikey started his hockey journey in his hometown at the age of six, rising to the ranks of Memorial Cup champion in May.

“Michael’s continued hard work and dedication to his sport has notably allowed him to reach his goals, will continue to propel him forward, and will undoubtedly have a positive influence, as an exemplary role model, on the youth of our community,” noted Mayor DiCarlo. “No matter where Mike’s career takes him, he will always be welcome in Amherstburg, his hometown. Michael is deserving of our recognition and Amherstburg residents take great pride in his accomplishments. As Mayor of this great town, I am honoured to present him with this ceremonial key.”

The ceremony took place in front of family, friends and media at Amherstburg Town Hall.
