D’AMICO LIFTS SPITS TO EASTERN SWEEP
(Ottawa, ON) – Daniel D’Amico scored the game winning goal midway through overtime, lifting the Spits to a 4-3 comeback win over the 67s Sunday afternoon at TD Place.
The win gave Windsor (22-13-2-1) a sweep of the annual Eastern Ontario trip, following wins in Peterborough (Thursday) and Kingston (Friday).
Igor Larionov (3), Cole Purboo (13) and Chris Playfair (3) had the other goals for the Spitfires, who got 29 saves from Michael DiPietro in his 20th win of the season.
Goals from Austen Keating and Merrick Rippon staked Ottawa (16-19-2-2) to a 2-0 lead a little more than five minutes into the game. But the Spits scored three straight, with Playfair’s goal giving the Spits a 3-2 lead at 18:28 of the second period.
Keating’s second of the game and 14th of the season forced the extra session.
Olivier Tremblay made 22 saves in a losing cause for a 67s club that has won just twice in 10 games.
