(Windsor, ON) – The Spitfires and Warrior Hockey teamed up to supply jerseys and socks to dozens of “Little Spitfires” Saturday morning at the Capri Pizzeria Recreation Complex.
As a kickoff to the 2018-19 season, more than 200 boys and girls, ages 4 to 8, got to meet a group of four Spitfires – Chris Playfair, Grayson Ladd, Will Cuylle and Cody Morgan – who helped them choose their new jerseys and socks.
It was a thrill for the kids, many of whom will be playing the game for the first time this fall, says Windsor Minor Hockey Association Vice President, Shannon Munson, who works with players Novice age and younger.
“We were so happy when the Spitfires reached out and offered to come and hand out jerseys today,” Munson said. “We always encourage our older players to come back and visit the younger ones. So this was a lot of fun today, seeing the little ones being able to look up to some older players who took the time out of their busy schedules to be here. They’re smiling from ear-to-ear too and having fun doing it, which makes it even better.”
The whole thing was made possible by Warrior Hockey, who stepped up to provide jerseys for seven different teams.
“Warrior Hockey and our parent company, New Balance, are always happy to help support our partner teams and athletes in their community initiatives, One of our goals at Warrior Hockey is to continually help to grow the game at every level. We were happy to donate the jerseys for this fantastic program with the Spitfires and the smiles and excitement from all the kids was amazing. Congratulations to the entire Spitfires organization on a wonderful event.”
A big thanks to Warrior Hockey for their generosity and commitment to the game at the grass roots level, and to all the hard working WMHA volunteers that keep hockey strong, at all levels, year after year!
