OT LOSS IN FLINT SNAPS FOUR GAME WIN STREAK

(Flint, MI) – Jalen Smereck scored the game winner at 3:49 of overtime, as the Firebirds beat the Spitfires 4-3 on Saturday afternoon in a back-and-forth affair at the Dort Federal Event Center.

Gabriel Vilardi gave the Spitfires a 3-2 lead at 7:17 of the third period, but Windsor (12-4-1-0) couldn’t finish off a pesky Flint (11-8-0-1) club that has now taken both meetings this season at the Dort.

Logan Stanley (1) and Julius Nattinen (2) had the other goals for the Spitfires, while newcomer Graham Knott knotched his first point, with the second assist on Vilardi’s goal.

Luke Kirwan (13), Kole Sherwood (7) and Ryan Moore (15) had the goals for the home side.

Michael DiPietro (20 saves) took the loss in goal, while Connor Hicks (22 saves) earned the win.
