(Buffalo, NY) – Mathew MacDougall scored the winner in a shootout, as the Spitfires edged the North Bay Battalion 4-3 in Saturday afternoon action at the Ontario Hockey League Preseason Showcase event at Harborcenter’s Key Bank Rink.

The Spits built a 3-0 lead on first period goals by Aaron Luchuk and Kirill Kozhevnikov and a second-period tally from MacDougall. But the Battalion fought back to tie things up on a pair of goals by Luke Burghardt late in the second and Justin Brazeau’s second of the tournament just past the midway point of the third period.

Michael DiPietro (21 saves) earned the win in goal in his first start since the Memorial Cup championship game, while Julian Sime made 38 in a losing effort.

The Spitfires will play their third of three games Sunday afternoon at 4:30 as they take on the Peterborough Petes.
